Abstract

Maximum 2-color air-plasma THz generation by each pump laser wavelength from an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) is experimentally investigated. While in general the maximum THz yield scales up rapidly as the pump wavelength increases; there are distinct local sweet spots in both the signal and idler wavelength range of the OPA, after which the maximum THz yield rolls off. With 1-mJ pump pulses at 1.82 μm, the generated THz pulse energy was measured to be 0.97 \mu \mathrm{J} with the focused THz field strength as high as 8.5 MV / cm.
