Wake models developed during the Wind Shadow Project

    Abstract

    The Wind Shadow project has developed andvalidated improved models for determiningthe wakes losses, and thereby the arrayefficiency of very large, closely packed windfarms. The rationale behind the project hasbeen that the existing software has beencovering these types of wind farms poorly,both with respect to the densely packedturbines and the large fetches needed todescribe the collective shadow effects of onefarm to the next. Further the project has developed thenecessary software for the use of themodels. Guidelines with recommendations for theuse of the models are included in the modeldeliverables.
