While marine resources are threatened worldwide adequate management
measures to mitigate the threats are rare in many places. Developing countries often rely on subsistence fisheries to support their livelihood, making resource management highly important; directly influencing people’s wellbeing. However, financial resources are seldom allocated to develop and support sufficient resource
management. In Fiji, the nation’s growing pressure on inshore fisheries is evident in local communities, which has led to villages taking management into their own hands. Here, we visit a Fijian island to uncover how village based marine reserves are contributing to the traditional fisheries
