    Abstract

This paper deals with the performance verification of optical coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) equipped with video probes along the vertical measurement axis. The aim of this work was to investigate the capability of artefacts like gauge blocks and angle blocks for calibrating, verifying and monitoring optical CMMs along the Z axis. The performance of an optical CMM was checked by the use of a laser interferometer, gauge blocks and angle blocks. Positioning errors and measurement errors along the Z axis and angular errors in the XZ plane were evaluated. Results have shown that the use of gauge blocks and angle blocks is limited by measuring problems
