Validation of Shadow Motion Sensor

Abstract

This study validates a shadow motion sensor developed for accurate cloud motion vector detection. By simulating shadows with precise speeds and directions in a controlled environment, the sensor’s performance is compared against ground truth. Building upon Kleissl et al.’s foundational work, this enhanced device demonstrates the potential to significantly advance CMV detection, supporting applications in solar energy forecasting and meteorological research.
