Abstract

The relative pressure and total shear at equal-channel angular extrusion (ECAE) in a nonrectangular die were determined by upper bound analysis and discrete velocity field. The obtained data were compared with the slip line solution of V. Segal. Good agreement between the two results was found. Physical modeling by plasticine confirmed the appearance of a dead zone at ECAE. The development of dead zone was analytically investigated.
