The invention regards an AC-DC converter comprising a rectifier comprising a first input configured to receive an AC signal, and a first output, wherein the rectifier is configured to rectify the AC signal to a first rectified AC signal having a first VRMS, a voltage scaling circuit comprising a second input connected to the first output, wherein the second input is configured to receive the first rectified AC signal, and a second output, wherein the voltage scaling circuit is configured, if the first VRMS is within a first voltage range, to scale the first rectified AC signal by a first scaling factor generating a second rectified AC signal, a power factor correction (PFC) circuit for keeping the current in phase with and proportional to the voltage of the second rectified AC signal. the PFC circuit comprising a third input connected to the second output, and a third output configured to supply a DC signal on an AC-DC converter-output.
