    Abstract

The paper gives approximate solutions to two practical crack problems, namely a square and a hexagonal hole with small symmetrical corner cracks. The boundaries of the holes including the cracks are idealized by hypocycloids with 4 respectively 6 cusps.

    G. I. BARENBLATT's theories for cracks in brittle materials are chosen as basis for presentation. Section 2 contains a brief introduction to these theories.
