    Abstract

In this project we compare the horizontal wind speed measured with aFirst class cup anemometer with wind speeds measured with three DTUshort range Windscanners. Here a First class Thies cup is top-mounted ona 10 m meteorological mast equipped with various atmospheric sensors. The probe volume of the Windscanners are located at the same height asthe cup, but 1.2 m southwest from the cup position. Prior to the cup mea-surements the wind speed measured with the Windscanners is comparedwith a sonic anemometer to check the validity of the setup. In this report, the field experiment set up is described. The data qualitywas thoroughly checked. The sensitivity of the ratio between the cupanemometer and the WindScanner wind speed measurements to variousconditions of speed, turbulence and temperature were investigated. Thetime series Windscanner data produced in this experiment will be usedto validate the Accuwind model for cup anemometer classification.
