N2 - The chemical sector is a billion-dollar global business and supplies products and services that are profoundly useful to societal development. However, fossil-fuel-based feedstocks, energy-intensive production processes, chemical waste products, and numerous toxic pollutants amass to an emission-intensive and hazardous chemical sector. A paradigm shift is needed to leave behind this “take-make-waste” system. This Voices asks: what barriers must be overcome to establish a sustainable and circular chemical sector?
