Towards better understanding of the temporal methane emission variation from landfills

    Abstract

    Most measurements in the campaigns showed the same emission rate within the uncertainty of the measurement. However, in the measurements in October 2017, an increase to more the double the previous emission rate was observed at the end of the campaign. This is likely due to a rapid pressure decrease. Similar result was observed in the October 2018 campaign, where one measurement showed a 3-4 times smaller emission during a pressure increase. The single measurement performed during stable conditions gave similar emission rate to the ones in the two campaigns when the pressure was not changing rapidly. The tracer dispersion method can be used for studying the emission variation, but a good time resolution for longer measurement campaigns require multiple operators.
