Abstract

We compare bandwidth and noise properties of mid-infrared supercontinua pumped by thulium-based gain-switched and modelocked systems. We demonstrate how a simple pump and efficient concatenation of fibers can maximize mid-infrared bandwidth beyond 5 μm.
