Thermomechanical Modelling of Resistance Welding

    Abstract

    The present paper describes a generic programme for analysis, optimization and development of resistance spot and projection welding. The programme includes an electrical model determining electric current and voltage distribution as well as heat generation, a thermal model calculating heat transfer and temperature distribution, a mechanical model determining stress and strain distribution and geometry of deformed work pieces and a metallurgical model calculating temperature dependent material properties and phase transformation. Examples on industrial applications of the programme are presented.
