Abstract

The ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([C2C1Im][NTf2]) was studied as a potential cooling crystallization solvent for 12 active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), with 10 APIs being miscible with [C2C1Im][NTf2] around their melting point. Solubility curves were obtained for nine APIs, and the cooling crystallization of crude acetaminophen was conducted to show that [C2C1Im][NTf2] represents a viable medium for the crystallization of APIs.
