When the behaviour of a ship in waves is to be predicted it is
convenient to have a tool which includes different approaches to
the problem. The aim of this project is to develop such a tool
named the strip theory module. The strip theory module will
consist of submodules dependent on the I-ship code available at
the department. It will be structured as a general preprocessor
mainly to determine the hydrodynamic mass and damping. A strip
processor including three different theories: A linear frequency
domain strip theory, a quadratic strip theory and a nonlinear time
domain strip theory. At last a postprocessor will be included with
facilities for statistical calculations and for plots and prints
of the results. The project is divided into 7 tasks where the third
is to be completed. This report has two aims. To give an
introduction to the project of developing a strip theory module
and to report the progress of the work.
