In the paper the spectral aspects of earthquake motions are discussed with regard to the simulation of artificial earthquakes. Simulated earthquake accelerations myst reflect the spectral composition of real earthquakes. Hence it is sought to take into consideration the spectral distortion of travelling seismic waves, magnitude-period relations, and vibration characteristics of ground due to the presence of softer superficial layers.
Estimates of amplitude spectra for bedrock motions are established numerically by using several semi-empirical relations for different parametric values of earthquake motion. It is shown that a random superposition of harmonic wave group
