Abstract

The ”Aeromine”, developed by Aeromine Technologies, is a novel, building-integrated wind energy converter system designed to supplement industrial rooftop solar PV systems, providing on-site renewable energy and reducing CO2 emissions. An Aeromine system consists of multiple 5 kW units, which are installed along the building’s roof edge that faces the predominant wind direction. A full-scale deployment could consist of 10−50 Aeromine units, totalling 50 − 250 kW installed on top of warehouses, distribution centres, and other large industrial buildings (a visualisation is provided on the report’s front page).

There are currently several operating prototypes of the Aeromine unit on various building types; however, to undertake the last developments before a possible market launch, it is necessary to evaluate the Aeromine’s performance under well-controlled conditions. A previous report [1] presents the experimental facility at the Risø campus of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), designed to validate the Aeromine units’ power performance in a realistic yet controlled wind environment.

The current report presents the initial prototype testing conducted between September 2024 and May 2025. In addition to the power performance measurements, the report develops and verifies a reduced-order Annual Energy Production (AEP) prediction model. The presented method for assessing Aeromine performance, both in terms of power and AEP, can help evaluate future design changes.
