N2 - It is suggested in this paper that radical reduction in energy
consumption is a precondition for reaching a sustainable
development. This is the case, also in a country like Norway
blessed with energy resources, for environmental, economic, and
moral reasons. First is presented an overview of the Norwegian
options for saving electricity by changing technology as well as
behaviour and structure of the economy. New indicators of progress
are suggested and recent trends in people´s preferences towards
economic saturation are presented. On this background it is
suggested how research within technology, sociology, psychology as
well as economy should be redirected.
