    Abstract

The response of an electrostatic probe is examined with reference to a planar spacer. The study involves the numerical calculation of the probe λ-function, from which response-related characteristic parameters can be derived. These parameters enable the probe detection sensitivity and spatial selectivity to be quantitatively assessed. Evaluation is undertaken with reference to spacer thickness, dielectric permittivity and the proximity of the spacer to other electrodes
