    Abstract

This document reports on the method used to create a numerical wind atlas for the South Baltic under the EU-FP7 project\Northern Seas Wind Index Database" also known as NORSEWInD. The wind atlas is created from the output of climate-type simulations with the Weather, Research, and Forecasting (WRF) model. The report is divided into three main parts. In the rst part, we examine the sensitivity of the mean wind speed and planetary boundary layer stability parameters to details of the model simulations. In the second part, we validate the wind atlas against wind observations at several mast and lidar sites. Generalized wind climates derived from the WRF simulations are also validated against generalized wind climates for sites within Denmark. In the third part, we provide maps of the wind climatology and stability conditions in the South Baltic sea as derived from the winds and stability parameters of the WRF simulations.
