The evolution of disorientations for several types of boundaries

    Abstract

During plastic deformation dislocation boundaries appear separating regions of different orientation. A model for the occurrence of disorientations across these boundaries is proposed and discussed with emphasis on several types of boundaries. For incidental dislocation boundaries a statistical origin of disorientations is considered, additional deterministic contributions arising from geometrical reasons are taken into account for geometrically necessary boundaries. The resulting diversity in the modelled boundary behaviour explains the experimentally observed differences in the dependence of the average disorientation angle on plastic deformation.
