    Abstract

The electrostatic ion-cyclotron instability is excited in a single-ended Q-machine by drawing an electron current to a strip collector crossing the entire plasma column. The instability is most easily excited when the widths of the strip is a few ion Larmor radii. The instability is confined within the current channel, defined by the projection of the strip collector
