Taguchi-Based Optimization of Surface Roughness in CNC turning operation

The productivity and quality are two important characteristics those control most of the manufacturingprocesses. In this paper, quality of machined surfaces in turning operation is optimized through Taguchi method. Thecomprehensive experimentation and analysis was performed on Al 6061 material based on Taguchi L9 orthogonal array.The commonly used parameters speed, feed and depth of cut were used for this assessment. The roughness values varybetween 0.3 and 4.4.A general linear model was employed to evaluate the parametric effects. It was observed that feed isthe significant factor at 95% confidence level.
