Abstract

This chapter provides a general overview of the systematic computer aided methods and tools that have been adopted for use in synthesis, design, and innovation of biorefinery networks. First the basic concepts related to synthesis, design-analysis, and innovation related to sustainable development of biorefineries are introduced. This is followed by the presentation of a computer-aided framework that allows a systematic study of biorefineries, followed by an overview of the associated computer-aided methods and tools that can be employed in various steps of the work-flow of problem solution. Next, examples of application of these methods and tools are highlighted through a selection of problems involving various aspects of synthesis-design-innovation of biorefineries.
