N2 - The Dansk Cyklist Forbund (DCF) wanted to carry out an analysis of
the use of an approximately two-kilometer section of walking path
surrounding the Pebling and Sortedams lakes in the Nørrebro and
Østerbro districts of Copenhagen, Denmark. The area of interest
was located along the streets of Peblinge Dosseringen and Sortesø
Dosseringen. In February of 1998 a proposal of legalizing bycycling
along the lakes was turned down and the DCF wanted to determine
who the objections came from, how the area’s residents,
pedestrians and bicyclists viewed the situation, and how strong
and well organized the opposition against the proposal was.The
goal of this project was to identify categories of users that were
opposed to bicycling on the Dosseringen of the Østerbro and
Nørrebro District lakes in Copenhagen. The identification of the
opposition and its strength, rationale and organization was in
terms of age, gender, residency, frequency of use and their
utilization of the area (i.e. walking, jogging, bicycling) as
compared to the support for bicycling in the area. This was an
Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP), that was designed to merge
technical and scientific knowledge with society, and stresses the
importance of this interaction.
