Abstract
The superparamagnetic relaxation time of carbon-supported alpha-Fe particles with an average size of 3.0 Mm has been studied over a large temperature range by the use of Mossbauer spectroscopy combined with AC and DC magnetization measurements. It is found that the relaxation time varies with temperature in accordance with Ni el's expression, tau = tau(0) exp (KV/kT) with tau(0) = (1.0 +/- 0.5) x 10(-10) s and K = (1.2 +/- 0.2) x 10(5) J m(-3).
