Abstract
The treatment of wind loading on structures with large spatial dimensions is complicated by the illdefined load/velocity relationship and the complex, disturbed flow pattern around any such large obstruction.
The momentum theory approach, discussed by Vickery and Devenport, 1967, is studied and expressions for the resultant total pressure and the aerodynamic admittance of a large building, say, are developed.
For the thus defined load process, the response of a simplified structure is investigated with respect to equivalent gust factors. In this context, the usual assumption of a narrow band response is dropped and the influence of broad band peak statistics is studied.
