    Abstract

A helix slow-wave structure with a square shape has been designed for use in traveling-wave tubes operating at terahertz frequencies. The square shape makes it compatible with microfabrication methods. A 3-D particle-in-cell simulation of a traveling-wave tube with such a helix indicates a gain of 20 dB at a frequency of 850 GHz.
