    Abstract

In this chapter we present more specific fibre types for particular applications. Starting with the multi-core fibre, which can be used as a substitution for ordinary SI-POF transmission fibres, but with better bending losses, over the ever increasing range of micro-structured POF for diverse sensing applications to fibres for illumination purposes or tubular fibres for the detection of sparks in electrical cables. Finally, a review on gratings in optical fibres and POFs in particular concludes the chapter. The different grating types, manufacturing methods and applications will be presented.
