Abstract
The paper summarises the basic theory of sound intensity and its
measurement and gives an overview of the state of the art with
particular emphasis on recent developments in the field. Eighty
references are given, most of which to literature published in the
past two years. The paper describes and discusses the sources of
error in measurement of sound intensity and the resulting
limitations imposed on various applications of such measurements.
Finally, some unresolved problems are mentioned, and the
possibility of improving the instrumentation is discussed.
