Abstract
The article raises the question, whether, on top of the environmental necessity of mitigating the growth in Gross Domestic Product, are also direct human benefits from such a step. This aspect is demonstrated by the increasing negative consequences of wealth in the USA and other affluent nations, in the form of overweight, distressing work, and other threats to the health.
