The paper deals with the plastic shear strength of non shear
reinforced T-beams.The influence of an un-reinforced flange on the
shear capacity is investigated by considering a failure mechanism
involving crack sliding in the web and a kind of membrane action
over an effective width of the flange. The position of the crack
in which sliding takes place is determined by the crack sliding
model developed by Jin-Ping Zhang. The theoretical calculations
are compared with test results reported in the literature. A good
agreement has been found.A simplified method to calculate the
shear capacity of T-beams is presented.
