Abstract
The selection of component codes for turbo coding has often been
based on the performance at high SNR's. However, we will argue
that the selection mainly should be based on the performance at
low SNR's, i.e. the convergence properties. Further, we will
present a way to construct interleavers that significantly improve
the performance of the turbo coding scheme at high SNR's, i.e.
lowers the error floor
