Abstract

CuOX/ZrO2-SO4 catalysts have been synthesised as conformed materials with the use of sepiolite as agglomerant and the performance in the NH3-SCR reaction with relation to biomass fired boiler units have been studied. The optimal Cu-loading of the catalysts is 3 wt.% CuO, both in terms of activity and selectivity. This catalyst constitutes a possible solution for NO removal in biomass-related applications, since it posses mainly Lewis acid sites, and therefore might be less subjected to deactivation by potassium containing fly ash particle produced during biomass combustion.
