N2 - Opto-electronic semiconductor devices operating at very high bitrates play a central role in the continued expansion of the transmission capacity of optical communication systems. A number of different devices based on quantum well structures have been manufactured within the framework of the national SCOOP programme. Results for a high-speed modulator, a short-pulse laser and an all-optical switch are presented.
