Weldability lobes are tools for quality assurance and for ensuring process reliability during resistance spot welding. The basic variables influencing the welding current setting range during resistance spot welding are investigated. A part from the influence of the basic parameters of welding time and electrode force, the influence of the sheet material, of the welding current form and of the electrode cape shape is examined. By the example of a medium frequency inverter welding gun, an optimization of the welding parameters of welding current, welding time and electrode force with three-dimensional representation is performed.
