Abstract

This chapter elaborates on the role of calorimetry in gas hydrate studies. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) has been considered an innovative tool to measure the thermophysical properties of various gas hydrate systems, which may have applications in energy recovery from marine natural hydrate resources, energy storage, hydrate structure elucidation, and assessment of hydrate inhibitors/promoters. A brief introduction of gas hydrates along with an elaborate discussion on the application of DSC in various hydrate-based phenomena have been presented. Further, challenges and the recent advancements in the high-pressure calorimetry have been outlined.
