Abstract

This study investigates wind farm design by comparing control co-design and sequential design strategies under two objective functions: annual energy production (AEP) and revenue. Using two test cases, each optimization run is evaluated based on AEP and revenue metrics, with revenue estimates informed by future electricity price projections from the Balmorel energy system model. Results reveal that although control co-design tends to yield slightly higher average AEP and average revenue, the difference is often negligible in the cases examined. Revenue-focused optimization runs show lower spread, suggesting enhanced robustness against local minimas. A strong positive correlation between AEP and revenue indicates that the objectives are not in conflict; rather, optimizing for revenue inherently promotes higher energy yields. These findings support a market-oriented approach to wind farm design.
