Abstract

Flexible and scalable networking solutions are required to offer more efficient bandwidth allocation and increased connectivity in submarine networks. In this regard,
filterless optical networks based on agile edge nodes equipped with coherent transceivers and passive broadcast-and-select nodes are promising cost-effective options which allow for more flexible capacity allocation and resource optimization in the optical layer. In this paper, we evaluate possible resource and cost savings in a filterless submarine network architecture.
