Abstract

It is shown that a simple extension of the usual sinusoidal trial solution in elementary textbooks to include a time-dependent amplitude of oscillation—a special case of the general Kryloff–Bogoliuboff solution—makes it possible to give a simple unified treatment of resonant growth in simple systems at a level readily accessible to beginning physics students.
