    Abstract

REMI/HEAT COOL is a computer programme for calculation of core heat up transients. The code determines the temperature transient of the fuel, and evaluates the influence of emergency core coolant, i.e. spray cooling. REMI/HEAT COOL is based on separate description of the steam and water phase in the primary system, and a detailed description of the radiative heat transfer between the fuel rods and the shroud. The latter does involve a determination of the absorption of thermal radiation in the two-phase flow. Furthermore the programme considers the
decay heat, metal-water reaction, heat transfer due to conduction and convection, and the film flow on rods and shroud.
