Ship building industry in Norway , mainly op erating in the Engineer-to-order environment, is one of the most innovative in the world in terms of technology and p roduction methods. In this pap er we investigate the applicability of the concep t of remanufacturing in the ship building
industry . The research takes a case study ap p roach to study the top ic and also p resents an overview of the ex-isting literature on remanufacturing and its benefits for businesses and environment. A five stage framework is p rop osed for integrating the concep t of re-manufacturing into the strategic
decision making process in ship building companies. This framework would streamline the decision making p rocess of ship - building companies entering the vessel remanufacturing business.
