    Abstract

A dual end plate (101, 102) arrangement comprising a thin internal end plate for a fuel cell stack or electrolysis cell stack (100) reduces the internal thermo-mechanical tensions in the stack. The resulting stack integrity reduces or omits the need for an external stack compression force at room temperature and reduces the necessary stack compression force at operation.
