Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the theoretical foundations, instrumentation, and diverse applications of Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy has become an invaluable tool in different fields. The chapter sheds light on the basic principles of Raman scattering. The different types of Raman spectroscopy are discussed. Raman spectroscopy and microscopy instrumentation are also discussed. Laser sources, spectrometers, and detectors are examined, illuminating the essential components that contribute to achieving optimal sensitivity and spectral resolution. There were provided examples of Raman spectroscopy and microscopy applications: volumetric Raman imaging of drugs, 2D and 3D orientation indexing of polycrystalline materials, SERS mapping for the detection of the specific chemicals, Raman imaging for microplastics detection and CARS imaging of PLGA nanoparticles.
