    Abstract

Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDX) equipment with radioisotope excitation and sample changer for the analysis of stream sediments, soils and rocks is described. Spectrum data handling and matrix corrections for the system with a 238Pu source are outlined briefly. Characteristic parameters for the analytical method are evaluated. A comparison of the analyses of V, Cu, Zn and Pb in about 160 stream sediment samples with those obtained by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AA) is given. Reasonably good agreement between EDX and AA analyses is obtained for Cu, Zn and Pb.
