Abstract
We show that Fano resonances can be realized in photonic crystal
membrane structures by coupling line-defect waveguides and point-defect
nanocavities. The Fano resonance can be exploited to realize optical
switches with very small switching energy, as well as Fano lasers, that
can generate short optical pulses.
