Abstract
The all optical network using WDM and optical nodes (OXC's) seems to
be a possibility in a near future. The consensus to day seems to be
that optical wavelength conversions is un-realistic for several
decades, hence wavelength blocking will happen in the all optical
networks. A possible solution to this problem could be to include
digital nodes (DXC's) in the network at the right places. In this
article we present a linear programming model which optimizes the
placement of these more expensive DXC's in the network.
