Abstract
We review our recent results concerning collapse andthermal
fluctuations in the two-dimensional nonlinearSchrödinger equation
(NLS), inhomogneities in this equationand a nonlocal NLS. We
discuss the application to molecularsystems like the organic thin
films (Scheibe aggregates). The results are published in Refs.
[1-10], which containfurther references. Since collapse is a
purely coherentprocess it is of importance to understand the role
of dampingand noise in this connection. Recently, we investigated
therole of the finite lifetime of excitation in the collapse
processby introducing linear damping.
