    Abstract

During the last few years new units consisting of a solar tank and either an oil fired boiler or a natural gas burner have been introduced on the Danish market. Three different marketed units - two based on a natural gas burner and one based on an oil fired boiler - have been tested in a heat storage test facility in the laboratory.Three small SDHW systems based on the three above mentioned units have been installed in single-family houses during 1997. These systems have been equipped with monitoring systems in such a way that it is possible to determine the thermal performances and the energy savings of the systems. The measured results of the laboratory tests and from practice as well as the experience from practice will be described in the paper. Based on the investigations it will be elucidated if the units live up to the expectations, or if there is a need to improve the unit-designs.
