    Abstract

The largest forces on offshore structures, either floating or fixed, are usually caused by surface waves. Therefore a good understanding of the statistics of these waves and of how they are measured are needed by anyone who is concerned with the design and construction of offshore structures, as well as by those responsible for the planning or operation of any offshore activity. This book describes, primarily for university students studying the design of offshore structures, the statistics of ocean waves and the significant advances in the measurement of waves which have resulted over the past decades from the introduction of satellite radar.
